(Springfield, IL) — February 11, 2010. An Illinois senate panel yesterday unanimously approved legislation to create a state task force to review deaths of children linked to abused and neglect.
The measure, Senate Bill 2533, sponsored by State Senator James Clayborne (D-Belleville) establishes an 18-month pilot program under the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services in the southern region of Illinois, creating a special Child Death Investigation Task Force.
The bill, approved 8-0 by the Senate Human Services Committee, requires the submission of a report to the Director of Children and Family Services, the General Assembly, and the Governor by July 1, 2011 that summarizes the program’s results.
The Human Services Committee include: Senators Mattie Hunter (D), Deanna Demuzio (D), William Delgado (D), Dan Kotowski (D), Heather Steans (D), Dave Syverson (R), Gary Dahl (R), Dan Duffy (R), and Dale Risinger (R).
The bill now moves to the full Senate for consideration.
