Illinois Elections 2010: GOP House Candidate Norman Davis To Tell Minority Leader Tom Cross “To Go Spit”

(Chicago, IL) — October 13, 2010. Until recently, House Speaker Michael Madigan (D-Chicago) has alone been plagued this campaign season with candidates who are willing to the buck the caucus leader. No more. Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) now has a potential trouble maker on his hands.

The Republican candidate for state representative who is challenging State Rep. Naomi Jakobsson (D-Urbana), Norman Davis, claims that he is running as an “Independent Republican” despite a recent direct mail piece sent by the House Republican operation attacking Jakobsson.

The Champaign News-Gazette‘s Tom Kacich reports today:

“I am running an independent Republican course because even with the recent mailer in here, that hasn’t been enough to say that I owe (House Republican Leader Tom Cross). Quite honestly, if they tell me to jump, I’m going to tell them to go spit,” Davis said. “I will do what is best for the people.”

Madigan, who has had several candidates recently distance themselves from the powerful House speaker, may now have more common ground with Cross than he knew.
