(Springfield, IL) — January 25, 2011. Despite Illinois’ lingering financial crisis that includes $6 billion in unpaid bills to state vendors, a state lawmaker yesterday introduced legislation to create a permanent school supplies tax holiday in Illinois.
State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock) is sponsoring the plan, House Bill 258, to provide that the tax holiday take place between August 6 and August 15 each year. Last year, a similar tax holiday was estimated to cost the Illinois’ empty treasury between $40 to $50 million.
Franks has been a frequent critic of reckless state spending.
