(Chicago, IL) – June 16, 2011. The Illinois Senate will return to Springfield in a regular session next Wednesday, June 22, to approve the state capital construction program eagerly sought by Governor Pat Quinn.
“The state’s construction program should continue uninterrupted,” Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) said today.
Though Cullerton, Quinn and the other legislative leaders agreed to adopt only the capital bill, the Senate President is not giving up on the additional education and social service spending sought by Senate Democrats, spending which had been added to the capital bill at the end of the regular session. The Illinois House refused to back the measure.
“There are still major structural deficiencies in the House budget that will become clear in the months ahead,” said Cullerton. “I look forward to having the opportunity to address issues such as the underfunding of education and social service commitments.”
The Senate’s session will begin at noon.
