(Chicago, IL) October 24, 2011. Governor Pat Quinn today rolled-out numerous appointments to the state’s more than 320 boards and commissions, including the Illinois Gaming Board and the Illinois Racing Board.
“I’m pleased to announce a set of talented, qualified individuals who will bring new skills and new energy to our boards and commissions,” Quinn said.
Aaron Jaffe, who has chaired the gaming board since 2005, was reappointed by Quinn. Jaffe has been stepping beyond his strictly administrator duties to publicly blast gaming expansion legislation approved by the Illinois General Assembly in May. Jaffe will face a rough road in a Senate confirmation effort. He has created a stable of enemies in the legislature for his rhetorical gun-slinging and foot-dragging on video gaming legislation implementation.
Quinn also appointed four other gaming board members.
The governor tapped Zaldwaynaka “Z” Scott, who was Illinois’ first executive inspector general. Scott served as a criminal prosecutor in the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Chicago before joining the private sector as a licensed attorney.
In addition to Scott, Quinn named Maribeth Vander Weele, a certified Illinois inspector general; Lee Gould, an attorney; and Mike Holewinski, a former Illinois State Representative and who now serves as the president of Ace Industries.
At the Racing Board, Quinn appointed Benjamin Reyes, currently the president of DSR Group, William Berry, an attorney in downstate Collinsville; Kathy Byrne, an attorney who owns race horses based out of state; Patricia Beauvais, a horse breeder who has served on the Illinois Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Foundation; and Roger Whalen a retired Chicago Police Department captain.
All nominees require Illinois Senate confirmation. And they will all get media vetting and lashing where necessary.
