Toni Preckwinkle-Backed State Rep Candidate Draws Opponent

(Chicago, IL) – November 7, 2011. During an interview on WVON radio last week, small businessman Kenny Johnson announced his candidacy in the Democratic primary for 26th district state representative in Chicago’s south shore, south side neighborhoods.

“Public service is what initially brought me to Chicago sixteen years ago,” said Johnson, “I have the small business experience and perspective of fatherhood to help guide my legislative decisions as a State Representative.”

The seat is currently held by State Rep. Kim Debuclet (D-Chicago), who was appointed this past spring to replace State Rep. Will Burns (D-Chicago). Burns is now the 4th Ward Alderma and Debuclet is not seeking reelection.

Currently, Johnson is Vice President at Merge Consumer Marketing, a Chicago-based advertising agency.  He also serves on the board directors for the non-profit Jobs for Youth, which young men and women from low-income families with job-training and other services.

Johnson will face fellow Democratic Chris Mitchell in the primary who is being backed by Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle. Mitchell has a fund-raiser tonight which Preckwinkle has promoted.

The new 26th District runs along the Chicago lakefront from the Gold Coast south to 43rd Street, and continues south through portions of Kenwood, Washington Park, Woodlawn, and the South Shore and South Chicago neighborhoods.

  1. Kenny Johnson is a tool of Jesse Jackson Jr. and thus guilty by association, along with Larry Rogers.
