About THE iLLINOIS OBSERVER

David Ormsby

Dear Reader,

THE iLLINOIS OBSERVER is a wholly owned subsidiary of no one.

This Internet News Weblog focuses on Illinois politics and the news, news makers, news reporters, and news shakers that go unreported, under-reported, or under-appreciated at the capitol or on the campaign trail in Illinois.

We published our first story on November 16, 2007 and racked up a grand total of 2 visits for the month. Yep, 2 visits. In November 2009, our 2nd anniversary, we totaled 8,841 visits–our best month yet.

Until January 2010. We racked up 25,025 visits in January.

As a result, THE iLLINOIS OBSERVER in a survey ranked 6th among Illinois’ approximately 52 independent blogs that provide content on state political news and commentary.

We owe that accomplishment to our readers. Thank you.

David Ormsby, an ex-Press Secretary of the Democratic Party of Illinois, is the Editor and Publisher of THE iLLINOIS OBSERVER. Mark Jones, an ex-Senior Executive at Accenture Consulting and a past consultant to Dreamworks Studios, is the Deputy Editor. Patrick Boylan, the Editor & Publisher of the award winning Welles Park Bulldog, is an editorial contributor. And a score of other contributors supply bits of information.

The facts in our stories are gathered from as reputable sources as possible and our opinions are concocted as far as decency possibly allows. If a “fact” is wrong, let us know.

A fact we’ll fix. An opinion we won’t. That’s how we roll here.

If you have a comment, complaint, correction, or a morsel of news to share confidentially, contact THE iLLINOIS OBSERVER:

  1. Didn’t the governor throw millinois into the SWICC and Sheridan prison’s located in Illinois? When is someone going to realize that you have to put your money up front, with treatment, intervention, etc. to keep so many from ending up in the Dept. of Corrections? I was employed at SWICC for 3 months when I realized way too much money was thrown into that arena.
Cutting the DMH budget. Employees at local mental health agencies haven’t had a raise or cost of living adjustement in years, but our elected officials give themselves a raise. The employees in the agency I am employed didn’t get pais last week due to our Governor/State. We are on the frontlines working with people that have mental illness and developmental disabilities everyday and we can barely keep our heads afloat due to the lack of wage increases.
Life isn’t fair, but sometimes it would be nice to see others(meaning government officials)take a few years without a COLA.

  2. While you have good facts on this websites I have to question whther your “independent” or not when you blog on DailyKos and Huffington. You cant get more liberal than that.

  3. Hi, Fred,

I make no claim to be a political “independent”. I am–shield the eyes of small children–a political “liberal”. What I mean by “independent”–in this context–is this blog is independent of a traditional, old media outlet. It’s like a new media start up.

What really gets me cranked–on either right, center, or left–is intellectual dishonesty and bumper sticker pubic policy cant. Then the fur flies.

    Thank you for reading.
