House Minority Leader Tom Cross
(Chicago, IL) — March 17, 2010. The federal health care legislation pending before Congress will aggravate the Illinois budget crisis Illinois State Senate Minority Leader Christine Radogno (R-Lemont) and House Minority Leader Tom Cross (R-Oswego) said today.
“It’s a cruel irony to promise people health care and then they can’t get treatment because doctors don’t want to cover Medicaid patients,” Senator Radogno said.
Radogno noted Illinois’ Medicaid costs have risen from $8.4 million in 2001 to $13.8 million in 2008, now taking up one-third of the state’s annual budget.
“We’ve been working to cut health care costs, but this federal program will put more on the Medicaid rolls,” Radogno said.
“We don’t really know how much the program will cost Illinois. One estimate is that it could cost Illinois $1.89 billion in the years between 2014 and 2019,” Cross said, who, upon retirement from the legislature will pay nothing for health care for the remainder of his life.
Illinois certainly can not allow more people to have subsidized health care like lawmakers. Where will it all end? Do we really want a state teaming with healthy little people?
