(Springfield, IL) – May 4, 2010. The Illinois State Senate today unanimously approved, 54-0, legislation to help businesses, who are applying for development assistance programs through the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO), to avoid the snarl of duplicative paperwork.
“This initiative will enable Illinois job creators to save time, money and energy by reducing redundant paperwork requirements for tax incentives administered by DCEO,” said State Senator Matt Murphy (R-Palatine), the senate sponsor of the measure.
Hurrah.
The legislation, House Bill 5230, will allow businesses who take part in multiple state development assistance agreements to file a consolidated progress report, rather than multiple, duplicative reports.
“This common-sense legislation allows our businesses to spend less time producing redundant reports and more time on creating jobs,” said Murphy.
Murphy is currently pondering entry into the congressional race against U.S. Rep. Melissa Bean (D-IL) if fellow Republican Joe Walsh’s faltering campaign collapses.
The bill, which originally passed the House 112-0, heads back to the House of Representatives to concur on a Senate amendment.
The House sponsors are: John Bradley (D), Suzanne Bassi (R), Dan Beiser (D), Ken Dunkin (D), Mike Bost (R), and Carol Sente (D).
The bill is expected to land on Governor Pat Quinn‘s desk.
The Association of State Paper Pushers is opposed to the plan.
