Illinois Election 2010: Bill Brady Raises $3.2 Million for Campaign against Governor Pat Quinn

State Senator Bill Brady (R-Bloomington)

(Bloomington, IL) — July 16, 2010. State Senator Bill Brady (R-Bloomington) today announced that his gubernatorial campaign against Governor Pat Quinn has raised $3.6 million in campaign contributions through the first half of this year.

Boy, that’s a lot of dough.

In a report to be filed by July 20 with the State Board of Elections for the reporting period January 1st to June 30th, the Brady campaign will report contributions from every one of the state’s 102 counties.  The campaign received contributions from more than 4,200 individual donors, 60 percent of which were under $100.

As of June 30th, the campaign had approximately $2.3 million on hand.

Quinn spokesman, Mica Matsoff, declined to comment on Brady’s haul except to say that Quinn campaign will recent its fund-raising totals on Tuesday, July 20.

The campaign also today announced the addition of businessman and long time Republican Party leader Ron Gidwitz, who ran a failed gubernatorial primary campaign in 2006, as Chairman of Brady’s campaign.

Bill Brady is the right candidate for Illinois, and I’m proud to support him,” Gidwitz said. “Bill understands we must stop runaway spending and tax hikes, and start bringing real jobs back to Illinois.”

Brady, who today is at fund-raiser in Galesburg, was first elected to the Illinois House in 1988 and arrived in the Senate in 2002.

Gidwitz is a partner in Chicago’s GCG Partners and is the former CEO and President of Fortune 500 consumer products company Helene Curtis.

A long-time fund-raising powerhouse in Illinois GOP politics, Gidwitz will undoubtedly bolster Brady’s cash pile even higher, ensuring that the down-state conservative Republican will have the money necessary to relentlessly assail Quinn on the airwaves.

Pull up a chair. It’s goin’ to be a long one.

  1. I am so ashamed of Illinois, long history of corruption.
Govenor Quinn has been no exception.
While he is giving his staff raises, he is robbing Illinois citizens of healthcare. Illinois public health employees have taken deep cuts at the expense of their health.
He has reduced access as well by not honoring the Student Loan repayment program, denying applications. This money was provided by the Federal Government. President Obama’s so called stimulus. It makes me wonder about the president’s possible corruption ties. Is he aware that this is happening. I would like to know. There is a story here if someone has the guts to pursue it.
