(Chicago, IL) – October 6, 2010. State Senator Dan Kotowski (D-Park Ridge) announced this week that he has been tapped by the Illinois senate president to take the lead role in the implementation a new state budget law.
“Budgeting for Results will help us confront waste, fraud, corruption and mismanagement,” Kotowski said.
“It will allow us to cut, fund and reform programs based on performance and production, not politics and special interest. Our citizens will then see a better result for the price of government.”
Kotowski was recruited by Senate President John Cullerton (D-Chicago) to initiate the Senate Democratic Caucus’ implementation of the new budget law.
“This approach to examining state spending exists because of Senator Kotowski’s continued advocacy,” Cullerton said.
The law, Senate Bill 3938, was signed by Governor Pat Quinn earlier this year.
Kotowski announced that he will work with members of the Senate to begin the formation of a bipartisan effort to involve members of the for-profit, non-profit and public sector to establish clearly defined spending priorities and results to be achieved with taxpayer dollars.
Kotowski will announce the initial participants on October 27.
Multiple local and state governments, such as North Carolina, already have budget-for-results policies in place and have improved public service outcomes, while decreasing service costs, Kotowski noted.
State Rep. Carol Sente (D-Vernon Hills) sponsored the measure in the House.
