(Chicago, IL) — October 22, 2010. Illinois GOP governor nominee Bill Brady acknowledged on Thursday at a debate with Governor Pat Quinn that top aides to ex-Governor Rod Blagojevich had been raising cash for his gubernatorial campaign, and the acknowledgment prompted the leaders of “Latinos for Brady” to denounce the fund-raising and called on Brady to return the money.
“They are good people who care deeply about their community and their state. And I look forward to their guidance,” said Brady, referring to former Blagojevich Chief-of-Staff Dean Martinez, who was appointed after Blagojevich’s arrest, and Blagojevich-appointee McPier head Juan Ochoa.
“It is well known that both Dean Martinez and Juan Ochoa were major fundraisers for Governor Blagojevich. It is also well known that both organized one of the last fundrasier for Blagojevich just three days before the former Governor was arrested in December 2008,” said Lou Sandoval, Stephen Galvan, Joseph Galvan, and Pete Anaya, leaders of “Latinos for Brady”, in a prepared statement.
“As the founding members of the Latinos for Brady and as Republican leaders of Illinois’ Latino Community, we are demanding that Senator Bill Brady’s campaign sever any and all ties with the former Blagojevich cronies … and call upon his campaign to return any funds raised …”, the statement added.
Despite the GOP Hispanic leaders’ outrage over the Brady-Blagojevich ties, they remain committed to Brady’s election.
“We stand committed to ensure that Senator Brady is elected Governor …,” the statement said.
