(Chicago, IL) – March 20, 2012. Lost in the snore-fest that is the Illinois 2012 Democratic and Republican primary election contests in Chicago, is a Green Party of Chicago primary fight.
Who knew?
Like the Democrats and Republicans, the Chicago Green Party also has committeemen races in Chicago’s 50 wards. However, it fielded candidates in only seven wards, of which only one has a contested election.
In the 2008 primary, 1,569 voters lined up to cast ballots in the Green Party-Non-Partisan column. The party’s power base lies in the 49th Ward where in 2008 the Green ward organization pumped out 72 votes.
This year, in the 12th Ward, Ricardo Garcia is locked in a primary mash-up with Alberto Bocanegra, Jr. In 2008, the Green Party’s 12th Ward organization racked up 27 votes.
The other 2012 Green Party Chicago ward committeemen candidates include: Daniel Estrada (10th), John Ailey (22nd), David Sacks (35th), Phil Huckelberry (38th), who is the Chairman of the Illinois Green Party, Robert Rudner (49th), and George Milkowski (50th).
As soon as the exit polls have early numbers, THE iLLINOIS OBSERVER, will attempt to call the Garcia-Bocanegra contest.
Stay tuned.
