Illinois 2012: Tammy Duckworth Issues 3rd Challenge to Joe Walsh on Super PAC Spending

U.S. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL)

(Chicago) – April 11, 2012. Tammy Duckworth today took a third swing at GOP opponent U.S.Rep. Joe Walsh (R-IL), calling again on him to sign a pledge to reject Super PAC spending in the general election.

Walsh has ignored Duckworth’s challenges.

Before she won the March 20 primary, Duckworth challenged the Tea Part’s favorite lawmaker on Super PAC cash. Walsh ignored the call. She repeated that challenge on March 27 and today.

Duckworth’s campaign has set a deadline for Walsh to respond by Friday, April 13.

Duckworth Campaign Manager Kaitlin Fahey, said “Our campaign laid out a pledge weeks ago, and now it’s time to for Joe Walsh to say yes or no. No negotiations or games.”

Duckworth’s campaign stated in a press release on February 13, 2012, “If Duckworth wins the primary, she will offer the same pledge to Congressman Joe Walsh for the general election.”

On March 27, Fahey offered Walsh the pledge again, saying, ”Joe Walsh is aware of the pledge. If he’s willing to agree to it, then we’ll be thrilled, but there can’t be any caveats.”

The terms of Duckworth’s pledge are as follows:

“If a Super PAC or other group eligible under Citizens United spends money on television, radio or mail to support or oppose a candidate in the 8th District race for Congress, the beneficiary will agree to pay 50% of the cost of airing that ad to a charity of his or her opponent’s choice.”

No one should be surprised if the Super PAC pledge dies a slow, agonizing death on Friday the 13th.

Let’s hope Duckworth’s campaign starts soon slinging other arrows out of its quiver. Voters spend precious little dinner-time patter on “Super PACs” versus, oh, let’s say, the $76.50 it cost to fill the SUV tank that day.

Stay tuned.

  1. If he cannot use Super Pac money how is he to pay child support?

  3. This should be an easy win for Tammy.

You have an Iraq war Veteran who lost both of her legs serving the country, running against a dead beat dad who owes more than $100,000 in back child support.
