House Deputy Majority Leader Art Turner
(Chicago, IL) — March 9, 2010. House Deputy Majority Leader Art Turner or Sheila Simon for the Democrats’ Lt. Governor nominee?
Chicago Sun-Times columnist Michael Sneed is reporting that former U.S. Senator Paul Simon‘s daughter, Sheila, who wants to be Governor Pat Quinn‘s running mate–her and about 200 people–is also on Quinn’s short list.
And Turner, a 30-year veteran lawmaker, who came in second in the race to disgraced winner Scott Lee Cohen, is on the voters’ short list.
Turner won 183,208 votes.
Simon, who served a single-term on the Carbondale city council before losing a race for mayor to Brad Cole, simply lacks Turner’s experience.
When the 38 members of the Central Committee of the Democratic Party of Illinois meet to select Quinn’s running mate, those 38 Democrats should keep in mind the 183,208 Democrats who voted for Turner.
