Although U.S. registered voters are closely divided in their 2010 congressional election preferences, those who say they are “very enthusiastic about voting” this year show a strong preference for the Republican Party.
The Cook Political Report recently shifted its outcome of the Illinois U.S. Senate contest between Alexi Giannoulias and Mark Kirk from “toss-up” to “lean Republican”.

With the kind of numbers Gallup is reporting the senate race is not “leaning Republican” — it’s “back-flipping Republican”.
