(Chicago, IL) — January 28, 2011. Despite the recently enacted Illinois income tax increase, which breathed a sigh of relief within the ranks of Illinois human service providers, Governor Pat Quinn will be imposing additional budget cuts on these groups in the current budget, according an Quinn administration source.
“We should expect bad news within the next week or 10 days regarding cuts to this year’s budget,” said the source.
Though the income tax hike will ease pressure on the state budget, it will neither raise enough money nor bring it in quickly enough to avoid budget cuts this year or next nor pay down sufficiently the $6 billion in unpaid bills.
“Providers should brace themselves,” said the source.
