(Chicago, IL) — February 14, 2011. Despite recent soft pedaling by Governor Pat Quinn on potential Illinois budget cuts in next year’s budget, the Illinois House budget negotiator says Illinois human services face budget cuts.
“There are going to be a number of cuts across the board in the human services area and they haven’t been laid out yet,” said House Deputy Majority Leader Frank Mautino (D-Spring Valley) on Friday, February 11. “The spending constraints that we put in the budget mean that there will probably be $800 million to $1.2 billion in cuts.”
Quinn, who will announce his budget on Wednesday, however said on Friday, “We can’t be cutting back on things that harm our economic recovery.”
Lawmakers get a peak at Quinn’s budget proposal on Tuesday.
